Day on the Beach 2025:
A Celebration of Inclusion, Joy & a World-First Sneak Peek
July 12, 2025 — Cowell Beach, Santa Cruz
The sun was shining, the surf was rolling, and the smiles were contagious. Shared Adventures once again transformed Cowell Beach into a vibrant playground of possibility—welcoming over 300 participants with disabilities, joined by 400+ family, friends, and 250 dedicated volunteers, for its biggest Day on the Beach celebration yet.
But this year wasn’t just big—it was historic.
The World-First Public Trial of the Electric Sandcruiser (eSC)
For the first time ever, the public got an exclusive chance to test-drive the groundbreaking Wheeleez™ Electric Sandcruiser (eSC)—an all-terrain, powered beach wheelchair that blends smart design with pure freedom. Set for global release in January 2026, the eSC made its unofficial debut here in Santa Cruz, turning heads and lighting up faces.
And wow—did people love it.
With its easy joystick controls, whisper-quiet power, and signature Wheeleez™ balloon wheels, attendees were able to cruise across soft sand and dip their toes at the water’s edge without assistance. For many, it was a moment of pure independence—and the smiles said it all.
From Pallets to Power Chairs
It all started with a dream. Founder Foster Andersen, a quadriplegic since 17, created Shared Adventures in 1994 after rediscovering the joy of adaptive sports. That year, he laid pallets on the sand so a few chairs could roll. Today, volunteers construct a 5,700-square-foot platform to support a full day of activities: kayaking, outrigger canoeing, scuba diving—and of course, unforgettable beach wheelchair rides.

Wheelchairs That Move the Day
Central to the experience are the Wheeleez™ fat-tire equipped beach wheelchairs, which enable participants to glide along the shoreline and ride the ocean waves. Shared Adventures partners with Santa Cruz County and Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks (thatsmypark.org)—doubling wheelchair coverage—including equipment freely shared for multi day use.

Wheeleez™ was prominant throughout the event. Their demonstration booth showcased how far mobility technology has come, with a lineup that included:
- Sandpiper® – for kids and petite adults
- Sandcruiser® – the gold standard for beach-specific freedom
- Wheeleez™ All-Terrain Rollator – a walker that defies gravel, grass, and sand
And of course, the headline act—the Wheeleez™ Electric Sandcruiser, drawing a steady stream of excited onlookers eager to take a spin.
What’s Next?
This event wasn’t just about looking back—it was about leaping forward. The Day on the Beach reminded us that accessibility isn’t a luxury—it’s a movement. From humble wooden pallets to sleek electric wheelchairs, innovation keeps rolling forward.
As Wheeleez™ prepares for the official launch of the eSC in January 2026, the message is clear: The beach belongs to everyone.
Here’s to more freedom, more inclusion, and many more unforgettable days on the sand.
